ABOUT THE GOLF PAINTING AND THE ARTIST - DOROTHY MONTGOMERY![]() The original golf painting is 36" x 48", oil on canvas in the classic style. It shows the gods at their "work stations" with Santrapius in the process of turning a golfer's tee shot of a lifetime on a par three into a sandy nightmare. Sirena Submergus and Triputtus are waiting their turn while Treehooktus is sleeping one off. The vivid colors from the image in the magic pool are reflected on the dreaded gods according to their specialty. The darkness of their temple mirrors their sinister activities. Reproductions of The Gods of Golf are of the highest quality and are available in three sizes, giclee on canvas or printed on acid free paper, framed or unframed. Included is the little golf book with the classic story of how the golf gods came to be. The golf community is very fortunate that Dorothy was convinced to accept this particular commission. Her imagination, creativity and artistic sense of humor has given to all of us who so love the game of golf a way to finally put names, faces and personalities on some of it’s most well known and universally despised but heretofore anonymous characters. Dorothy collaborated with Ron Hodge, the author of the golf book, The Story of The Gods of Golf, and long time victim of the gods, to make sure that what the gods were like and capable of came through on the canvas. She did a remarkable job indeed. Growing up in Redondo Beach, California, Dorothy got her start in art and by the age of eight was demonstrating finger painting at the Los Angeles County Fair. Seeing her first exhibit of the European "Old Masters" works on a high school field trip inspired her love of oil as a medium with it’s richness of color, depth and luminosity. She pursued this interest earning a degree in art from El Camino college and has continued her education in art through many seminars, classes and workshops in the United States, France, Italy and China. Soon after moving to Huntsville, Alabama she began teaching classes in drawing, oil painting and portraiture and promoting art shows for her students. She shares her enthusiasm and love for art along with her unique teaching abilities to bring forth her pupils’ own inherent artistic talents so they can reach their highest level of expression. Dorothy’s art covers a diverse range of subjects. Her attention to detail and color, her love of animals and the scenic beauty surrounding her are revealed in her paintings; which appeal to collectors around the world. In addition to her busy portrait schedule she finds time for commissions as varied as stained glass window design and a portrait of the white persian cat starring in a popular TV cat food commercial. Traveling extensively in Europe, Russia, China, New Zealand, the South Pacific and each of the fifty United States, Dorothy stays active in the Southern (USA) Art Community by regularly having one woman exhibitions based on the paintings that were inspired by the beauty she found in these lands. She has been the recipient of many prizes,
awards and honors; but her greatest joy is seeing the happiness a special painting can bring to an individual and their loved ones. |
