Golf Photos: Great Moments Memorialized
Golf is more than a pastime, more than a sport and certainly more than Mark Twain's proverbial "nice walk, spoiled." Avid golfers - and golf lovers - find art and beauty in golf, or, to quote golf great Arnold Palmer, "What other people may find in poetry or art museums, I find in the flight of a good drive." The best
golf photos memorialize those moments, those glorious arcs of white ball against a blue sky, those seconds when the world seems to hang still and wait on the slow roll of the putt towards the cup. Photographers have captured some of the most famous and memorable moments of all time in golf photos that are framed. If you're looking for
golf art to finish off the decor of your family room or den, consider one of these famous golf photos.
The King, The Bear and The Tiger Framed Golf Art
A lucky photographer thought he was snapping a rare shot of two of golf's greats - Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus - relaxing as they watched a young golfer tee off. The pair is standing side-by-side, heads tilted as if conferring on amateur golfer Tiger Woods' stance, perhaps critiquing his swing. The young man has just completed his swing and is standing, club high and back,
feet twisted in the signature follow-through that the entire golfing world now knows so well. A classic wood frame and gold plaques engraved with the signatures of the three golfing greats turn this classic golf photo into a piece of valuable golf memorabilia.
Fast forward to the 1996 Masters to complement that golf photo with one of Palmer, Nicklaus and Woods walking the fairway side by side to have a slice of golf history on your walls.
Arm in Arm - Friendly Rivalries
Nicklaus and Palmer had a longstanding friendly rivalry immortalized in famous golf photos, such as The Lost Bet, which captured long-time pro Arnold Palmer handing over the winnings to newcomer Jack Nicklaus, or Palmer and Nicklaus on tee as the honorary starters at the 2010 Masters Tournament. But Nicklaus and Palmer aren't the only friendly rivalry in golf. Other famous golf
photos include Fred Couples and Phil Mickelson walking arm-in-arm in animated conversation at the 2006 Masters, which was Mickelson's second Masters win in three years.
Farewells to St. Andrews
Every fifth year, the British Open is held at The Old Course at St. Andrews, one of the oldest and most picturesque golf courses in the world. One of the most famous series of golf photos features famous golfers waving farewell to St. Andrews from atop the Swilcan Bridge. You'll find framed golf art featuring the likes of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson standing atop the Swilcan Bridge and waving farewell to one of the most famous golf courses in the world.
In addition to photos of famous golfers, you might also choose to hang golf photos of famous courses on your walls. Surprise the golf lover in your life with a framed photo of St. Andrews - with the moon or sun rising over the Swilcan Bridge - or various holes at Pebble Beach, home of the U.S. Open, and Harbour Town at Hilton Head.
