1969 Ryder Cup Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin Golf Memorabilia
Commemorate The 2008 Ryder Cup With The 1969 Ryder Cup "The Concession" Giclee!

Sale Ends September 21

In preparation for the 2008 Ryder Cup September 16-21 being held at the beautiful Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky lets first go back in time to golf’s greatest moment in sportsmanship, the 1969 Ryder Cup.

The 1969 Ryder Cup, at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England was a classic. Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin stood on the 18th green all square the points for each team equal. Jack conceded Tony a two foot putt to half the match. “I don’t believe you would have missed that, but I would never give you the opportunity in these circumstances,” Jack said. Tony had won The British Open two months earlier, Jack realized only too well, Britain had its first champion for 18 years, and  nothing would spoil that. It was a gesture of true friendship and sportsmanship. Sam Ryder would have been proud.

As an addition to the
Ryder Cup Furniture Collection introduced in Europe in 2001, the renowned Korean-born portrait artist Hoeun Chung was commissioned to produce a portrait of the most famous moment in Ryder Cup history now know as “ The Concession”.

The original oil painting was completed September 12th, 2001 and hand signed by the artist Hoeun Chung. The following week 250 limited edition Giclees were produced from the original oil painting by Riverwood Hall; one of the premiere Giclee printers at the time.

The project was then put on hold as the Ryder Cup matches were postponed for a year due
to the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

The Concession
Jack Nicklaus’s gesture as a sportsman
in the 1969 Ryder Cup matches also inspired one of America’s great golf club and residence. “The Concession” located on Florida's Gulf Coast.

The Concession was designed by Jack Nicklaus in association with Tony Jacklin, with an adjoining residential community underlying the ideals of Ryder Cup competition. Here amid ancient oak hammocks, magnificent homes grace the 1,200-acre reserve. This extraordinarily private community will be a worthy complement to the unique experience of The Concession Golf Club and its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. It’s a course that promotes  the level of sportsmanship and friendliness inherent in Jack’s concession at the 1969 Ryder Cup at Royal Birkdale.
